Brian McGinness, KCYPAS President Brian McGinness is very excited to begin his journey as president of Kansas City Youth Performing Arts Support. This new not-for-profit organization is a perfect fit for what he holds closest to his heart and has always lived by the affirmation, "Setting others up for success is the greatest gift we can give as well as receive." As a young dancer, Brian attended the Joffrey Ballet School and the School of American Ballet summer programs in New York City. He studied extensively under esteemed master teachers including Todd Bolender, Una Kai, Eric Hyrst, and Tatiana Dokoudovska. He has had the honor of performing with the Kansas City Ballet/State Ballet of Missouri, Westport Ballet, Omaha Ballet, Susan Warden Dancers, Dick Pond Dance Ensemble, and City in Motion Dance Theatre. He has also appeared as a guest artist with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, the University of Missouri, the University of Kansas, and the Heartland Men's Chorus. Following Brian's professional performing career, his focus shifted to working as an educator, and role model to thousands of students studying the performing arts. He enjoyed directing the Miller Marley Entertainers for twenty-four years and the Show Biz Performers for seventeen-years. His dancers have performed at Walt Disney World, EPCOT, and the 1992 World's Fair in Seville, Spain. Brian became a seasoned dance teacher, instructing and inspiring students for over forty-five years. His students have gone on to professional careers in all aspects of the arts all over the world. Brian has always stated how proud he is of all his students who found success in the arts but is equally proud and inspired by those who followed their hearts into careers in the business world and academia. Brian's choreography has been featured at Quality Hill Playhouse, the Unicorn Theatre, Theatre in the Park, and the Civic Opera Theatre, among many others. His work as a director and choreographer has earned him multiple DEMMI Awards, including Best Choreography and three awards for Best Director of a Musical. Since joining Miller Marley School of Dance and Voice in 1980, Brian has been a vital part of the school's artistic leadership. He is currently serving as School Director and feels his greatest passion remains inspiring every student to "Follow your Dreams." |
